Jorge Acosta M.D., FACS.

Jorge Acosta, MDDr. Jorge Acosta is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was raised in El Paso, TX., and attended Baylor University for undergraduate education. Dr. Jorge Acosta completed medical school in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, TX., after which he attended and successfully completed general surgery residency at the Texas Tech Health Science Center at El Paso, TX. After completing residency in 2003, he underwent additional training in Bariatric Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Univerisity of Louisville in Louisville, KY.  Dr. Acosta is Board Certified in General Surgery. He serves as co-medical director for the Las Palmas Del Sol Bariatric centers, as well as medical director for the Del Sol Heartburn Institute. His areas of interest are Bariatric surgery and antireflux surgery (including TIF) as well as minimally invasive (laparoscopic procedures) including repair of different anatomical hernias. He received several honors and awards including the 2007 Doctor of the year award by Del Sol Medical Center. He has also received the 2012 Healthgrades award for top 5% in General Surgery nationwide and has been named to the 2013 Texas Super Doctors by Texas Monthly. Dr Jorge Acosta is a consultant for ethicon endosurgery and is a cofounder and president of Rio Grande Surgeons, PA.  Dr Jorge Acosta is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Texas Medical Association and the Southwest Association of Hispanic American Physicians.

Michael Lara M.D., FACS.

Michael David Lara, MDDr. Michael David Lara is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. A board-certified surgeon who specializes in bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Dr. Lara was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He was one of the first fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons in El Paso, Texas as well as one of the first to perform single-site incision DaVinci robotic surgery in the region. Dr. Lara is the Co-Medical Director for the Del Sol Bariatric Center and the Las Palmas Bariatric Center. He is co-founder and officer of Rio Grande Surgeons, PA.Dr. Lara received his undergraduate degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He then received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston Texaas before completing his residency in General Surgery at Texas Tech Health Science Center in El Paso. After the completion of his residency in 2003, he underwent additional training. Dr. Lara completed a fellowship in Bariatric and Mininally Invasive Surgery from the Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Dr. Lara is a member of the American College of Surgeons; the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons; the American Society for Bariatric Surgery; the Texas Medical Association and the Southwest Association of Hispanic American Physicians. Dr. Lara serves on the Surgical Advisory Council as well as on the Robotic Advisory Council at Del Sol Medical Center. He has been the recipient of multiple honors and awards, including the 2013 Doctor of the Year Award from Del Sol Medical Center. He has also received the 2012 Healthgrades award for top 5% performance in General Surgery nationally.His areas of clinical interest are Bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, Robotic (DaVinci) surgery, anti-reflux surgery, gallbladder surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, colorectal surgery and repair of different types of anatomical hernias. As well as Minimal Invasive surgery via laparoscopy or single-site incision utilizing the DaVinci robot.

Manuel L. Acosta, MD

dr-bioDr Manuel Acosta studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).  He completed his residency training for general surgery at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, TX.  He has been involved locally as chairman with the Board of Health in El Paso County, as well as chairman for the health division of United Way.  Dr Manuel Acosta served as past president for El Paso County Medical Society, as well as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery for the Las Palmas Del Sol Health Center.At the state level Dr Manuel Acosta is chairman of the Border Health Caucus and is a Delegate and past Chairman for TEXPAC.  He is also a member of the Texas Medical Association, and American Medical Association.Dr Manuel Acosta has resided in El Paso, TX.  for 38 wonderful years, he has always loved his profession and has enjoyed taking quality care of his patients.
